A nossa hist\u00f3ria de funda\u00e7\u00e3o<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Na Nig\u00e9ria, o acesso a cuidados de sa\u00fade b\u00e1sicos n\u00e3o deveria ser um privil\u00e9gio, mas para muitos, parece um sonho imposs\u00edvel. Testemunh\u00e1mos esta luta em primeira m\u00e3o - as longas esperas, a falta de recursos, as escolhas desesperadas que as pessoas s\u00e3o obrigadas a fazer. O custo da desigualdade na sa\u00fade n\u00e3o \u00e9 apenas financeiro; \u00e9 pago em vidas perdidas demasiado cedo, em fam\u00edlias desfeitas por doen\u00e7as evit\u00e1veis. Esta realidade despertou algo profundo em n\u00f3s, uma determina\u00e7\u00e3o para criar mudan\u00e7as.<\/p>

Fund\u00e1mos a Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research Ltd\/Gte porque n\u00e3o pod\u00edamos ficar parados enquanto tantas pessoas nas nossas comunidades estavam a sofrer. Sab\u00edamos que, se n\u00e3o actu\u00e1ssemos, o ciclo de neglig\u00eancia continuaria. Doen\u00e7as que podiam ser tratadas estavam a ser deixadas a apodrecer porque a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e os ensaios cl\u00ednicos avan\u00e7ados eram quase inexistentes no nosso pa\u00eds. Assistimos \u00e0 transforma\u00e7\u00e3o de pessoas - pessoas reais com esperan\u00e7as, sonhos e entes queridos - em estat\u00edsticas, com as suas vidas encurtadas por n\u00e3o terem acesso aos cuidados de que necessitavam.<\/p>

Nas zonas rurais e nos bairros de lata urbanos, onde a vida quotidiana j\u00e1 \u00e9 uma luta, as crises sanit\u00e1rias s\u00e3o mais graves. Doen\u00e7as evit\u00e1veis ceifam vidas silenciosamente, e a medicina tradicional, que tem grande valor na nossa cultura, por vezes faz mais mal do que bem sem testes cl\u00ednicos adequados. Vemos esta utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o incorrecta n\u00e3o como uma falha da tradi\u00e7\u00e3o, mas como uma falha do sistema em apoiar pr\u00e1ticas seguras e eficazes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Para as mulheres e raparigas jovens, os riscos s\u00e3o ainda maiores. A mortalidade materna \u00e9 uma realidade tr\u00e1gica, agravada pela falta de educa\u00e7\u00e3o e de recursos em mat\u00e9ria de sa\u00fade sexual e reprodutiva. Os casamentos prematuros, as gravidezes n\u00e3o desejadas e a propaga\u00e7\u00e3o de doen\u00e7as n\u00e3o s\u00e3o apenas problemas - s\u00e3o crises que as nossas m\u00e3es, irm\u00e3s e filhas enfrentam todos os dias. A depend\u00eancia desactualizada do sistema em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos registos em papel apenas dificulta a presta\u00e7\u00e3o de cuidados que poderiam salvar vidas.<\/p>

Tamb\u00e9m os idosos s\u00e3o muitas vezes esquecidos, deixados a enfrentar os seus \u00faltimos anos com pouco ou nenhum apoio. A sa\u00fade mental \u00e9 ignorada e os que sofrem s\u00e3o postos de lado, a sua dor \u00e9 considerada uma supersti\u00e7\u00e3o. Vemo-los, a vaguear pelas ruas, perdidos nas suas lutas, e sabemos que este estigma tem de acabar.<\/p>

Foi por isso que cri\u00e1mos a Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research. N\u00e3o somos apenas mais uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o; somos pessoas que acreditam que todas as vidas, por mais pequenas ou marginalizadas que sejam, s\u00e3o importantes. Concentramo-nos nas pessoas que foram deixadas para tr\u00e1s, levando os cuidados de sa\u00fade \u00e0queles que mais precisam. O nosso trabalho \u00e9 orientado por uma verdade simples: Todas as vidas s\u00e3o importantes.<\/p>
