Overview
About this event
The Big Walk is an annual cancer awareness campaign organized by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research (EMCR) to commemorate World Cancer Day on February 4.
The campaign brings together healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, volunteers, advocates, and members of the public to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, screening, and access to timely treatment.
Through a symbolic community walk, health education, public engagement, and cancer screening advocacy, EMCR seeks to challenge the fear, stigma, and misinformation surrounding cancer while encouraging individuals, women and young girls in particular, to take their health seriously.
Every step taken during The Big Walk carries a message of hope, solidarity, and support for people living with cancer, those undergoing treatment, and families who have lost loved ones to the disease.
Cancer does not have to be a death sentence. Early detection can save lives, and no one should lose the chance to receive treatment because of poverty, fear, or limited access to healthcare.
The Big Walk is more than a walk. It is a public call to action, reminding communities that cancer awareness must lead to screening, early diagnosis, timely medical care, and continued support for those affected.
Together, we walk for awareness. We walk for hope. We walk to save lives.
